Choose Your Character! ~ Boudoir Photography ~ Vancouver, WA

Today, we’re talking boudoir!

If you’ve seen some of my boudoir photography before, I’m betting you’ve noticed that boudoir sessions can come in all different types of styles, environments, shapes, and sizes.

(If you’re new here, though, here’s a good place to start!)

We’ve had outdoor sessions, shower sets, kitchen backdrops, and milk baths! I love talking to my clients about their vision for our sets and always love creating experiences for them that match the ideas they’ve had in their head. Even if you’re dreaming of a different type of set that I’ve never used, I’m always up for chatting about your ideas and finding creative ways to bring them to life!

What if we take this idea a bit farther, though?

Boudoir sessions allow us to not only create settings that match your wildest dreams… If it’s up your alley, you can also create characters for your photography session that we can bring to life!

Creating a character for your photography session is perfect if you’re looking to highlight a specific part of your personality or even wanting to amp up your sensuality. You can create a character to embody whatever it is that you want to highlight! Looking for some inspiration? That’s exactly what my client did!

My client has a wedding coming up with me in spring 2023, but before her big day, she decided to also book a boudoir photography session as an add-on! When she shared her ideas with me, I couldn’t wait to get started with the session… She let me know that she was hoping to dress up in a few different looks for the photoshoot and has a ton of fun portraying a character. When I heard this, I immediately got to work and started thinking of which types of shots and sets would best complement each look!

On the day of my client’s session, we jumped right into the first theme once her hair and makeup were all done! For this first look, she went with black lingerie that definitely had a vintage feel to it. Out of all the styles she chose, this definitely was the most in line with a traditional boudoir look! With this first outfit, we took photos using the living room and bedroom sets, starting off pretty classic.

Next, she swapped into a secretary-inspired look for her next character. This outfit featured a polka dot blazer and pencil skirt that were both PERFECTLY on theme. She also added red lingerie underneath which gave a sexy edge to the retro-inspired look. We set up an office and cityscape to be the setting of these photos, and from the final shots, you can definitely tell that the whole vision really came together!

My client’s last character was a sexy super hero! This look featured a mask, thigh-high boots, and a black mini dress with cutouts. For this theme, we stuck to the cityscape for some shots, but we also went back to the classic living room set. Some of my personal favorite photos of this look ended up being the ones with a simpler background! My client’s confidence and outfit really shined in the photos that featured an all white or all black background.

The next time you’re planning on booking a boudoir photoshoot, it’s an awesome idea to use this session for inspiration! Creating a specific character for your session is a ton of fun and can truly take your session experience to the next level. I will always have so much love for classic boudoir shoots, but if you’re ever in the mood to step outside your comfort zone and try creating a character for a change, you know you have my support!

Thanks so much to my client for this amazing photography session and your creative ideas, too. Luckily for me, she booked another boudoir session with me before her wedding, and I can’t wait to see what ideas she has for this next photoshoot!
