Family Photos, COVID-Style ~ Vancouver, WA

I don’t do a ton of family photography these days, but occasionally a client will reach out and book me for a session (Siide note, twice a year I DO do a “Mini Session Day” with special deals and incentives, so, if you’re interested in getting first dibs on one my fall event (info should be coming out soon), subscribe to my newsletter here!).

Things have gotten a little different recently with photography requirements in the age of COVID. The biggest two changes are that your photographer is required to be masked and to remain at least six feet away from you and your family. I stand behind these precautions 120%, but they do create some challenges. Wearing a mask means that your children (and pets!) can’t see my smile. This one is TOUGH for me from a heartstrings perspective. I want your little ones to feel comfortable with me as soon as possible, so my challenge to myself is to up my game verbally. Apologizes in advance if I’m a little “extra” at your session due to this. Make sure to have your morning coffee before you arrive. ;)

The bigger challenge for me is the 6 foot distance requirement… ONLY because I am so used to assisting with posing and touch ups during your session. If I see a stray hair, but you look perfect otherwise and I don’t want you to move, it’s SO much easier for me to approach you and (with your permission) move the hair out of the way, than ask you or someone in your family to do it and disturb the set up. BUT this is the way that it now has to be done in order to make sure that everyone remains healthy and safe. So, that being said, expect a lot more verbal direction and modeling poses from a far! (well, six feet “a far” at least!)

My business was able to open up again at the beginning of June, so, to kick things off, I advertised for some “Front Porch” sessions and was pleased to photograph several family in front of their homes (where they have spent SO much time recently!) It was a lot of fun!

(I still have a couple of Front Porch slots open for the remainder of July if you’re interested! Just reach out and we’ll get something on the calendar!)

In addition to Front Porch sessions, I also had a client want to take an adventure out to Stone and Stave Wine Estates in the gorge for some updated family photos in the vineyard. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ve been craving a “road trip” (regardless of how short), and jumped at the chance to change up my surroundings for a couple of hours!
