Combining Passions

I’ve been a photographer for decades… and I’ve been a runner for about 4 years. I never really thought that I’d have the chance to put those two together, but, surprising, it’s crept up more than once! This time around, I had the opportunity to photography the Oregon Brewery Running Series race at Hopworks’ Vancouver, WA location. This family-friend race series set up a 5k around the Columbia Tech Center Trail, and then had goodies, food, and beer available at the finish line… my kind of race!

I love photographing events because I get to revert back to my photographic beginnings as a journalist. I get to hang back, and document what’s happening in front of me… rather than orchestrate the set up. I love that kind of freedom!

Photographing the race was fun for me. I loved seeing all of the families come through the finish line together. Kids jumping off the sidelines at the last minute to run with their moms and dads through the arch. Dogs, scooters, adults, kids, babies… they were all there, and were all having a blast! (And probably all slept REALLY well that night!)

I’m looking forward to photographing the next Vancouver, WA race in April at Heathen. Will I see you there?
