This Boudoir Photographer's Attempt at Self Portraits

~Quick note before you read this post… I am doing a self portrait challenge with prizes and everything over in my private Facebook group! If you identify as a woman and would like to participate, come on over and check it out!!~

As a boudoir photographer, I think it’s SUPER important to get your own boudoir photos taken. There is no other way to understand/empathize with what your clients’ are experiencing if you’ve never done it yourself. I’ve had my own images taken four different times, by four different photographers, over the course of the last 10 years. Each session was a very unique experience, and each session left me feeling so sexy, confident, and powerful.

The images above are some of my own boudoir images. The first (color, close-up) images in by In Bloom Photography, the second image (black and white) is thanks to Brittany Runnels Photography. The third image (in the window) was taken by Missy Fant Photography, and finally, the photo with the amazing heels was courtesy of Nicole Severson Photography. I love seeing images of myself and being HAPPY with them! So many times I see photos that others have taken and can only seem to pull apart my own image. My experience with boudoir photography has allowed me the opportunity (several times!) to see a picture of me and smile!

So…that brings me to the point of this post. With everything being shut down (as of my writing this on April 21st), and not being able to photograph actual clients in my studio right now, I decided to try to use my built up creative energy to do some self portraits and play around with different poses… well, I’ll tell you, it was a lot more work than I thought it would be! lol BUT out of all of the images that I took (and there were MANY!) I did end up with some that I am quite proud of! Take a look at the slideshow below!

It was kind of fun to have a reason to 1) do my hair and make-up, 2) put on some pretty clothes (or take them off… depending on how you look at it!), and 3) take some time to pay attention to myself and give myself some love. I totally recommend this if you need a boost! I will say, that self portraits are NOT as easy as they look! I was using my phone as a remote, and was constantly figuring out how to hide my phone from the image… and then not to mention how much my back hurt from all the arching, and my calves from wearing those damn heels. LOL (#notaheelperson).

I’d love to see some of your own self portraits! If you identify as a woman, you should stop by my private Facebook boudoir group and participate in my May challenge!
