Tattoo 34 ~ Portland, OR ~ Brand Story Photography Session
/When it comes to my brand photography clients, I love working with every single one of them! Not only because I have a ton of fun meeting my fellow business owners in the Pacific Northwest... I also enjoy learning more about the products they create, the industry they work in, and the services they offer.
Because of this, it's super enlightening to work with branding clients who have businesses that are completely different from mine... but it's also a cool opportunity to work with clients who create art like I do!
One of these amazing clients is Tattoo 34 in Portland, Oregon. I previously photographed a "Block Party" event that was held by Tattoo 34, and at this event, it was VERY fun to capture the healed tattoos of some of their clients. The focus of that day was on documenting the artwork itself... But in this post, I'm highlighting a brand photography session that I had with Toby Linwood who co-owns Tattoo 34. This shoot allowed me to get a behind-the-scenes look at the process of tattooing from start to finish. (Even though I have my own tattoos, I never took THIS close of a look at the whole process!) I was also able to capture photos of their beautiful studio, and these photos can now be used in their marketing materials.
On the day of the brand story session, I arrived at Tattoo 34 and checked in with Toby. While he was preparing his station for a tattoo session, I focused on getting some behind-the-scenes images of that process! I also snapped some shots of the studio that included their selection of ink colors and some flash designs that were available.
During this part of my day, I learned more about Tattoo 34 and their offerings! When booking a session with a Tattoo 34 artist, you can choose from seven tattoo artists and one cosmetic/medical tattoo artist... so as you can probably imagine, there's a HUGE variety of tattoo styles that you can choose from! Whether you like black and gray realism, American traditional, blackwork tattoos, or traditional tribal, there's guaranteed to be an artist who can create the custom tattoo you've been dreaming of.
Luckily, it's easy to take a peek at each artist's portfolio and learn about their preferred tattoo style. Once you find an artist that you resonate with, you can click on their artist page to book your custom tattoo session with them!
You can also visit the shop on Wednesdays or Sundays to receive a walk-in tattoo! These walk-in slots are best for "get what you get" tattoos, flash designs, or simple custom tattoos.
On top of these custom tattoos and walk-in tattoos, you can visit the shop for lip blushing, scar camouflage, and even brow shaping! Just keep in mind that esthetic services are only offered on some walk-in days. It's best to look at the walk-in calendar to see if Zuri (the shop's esthetician and cosmetic tattoo artist) will be available!
After learning all about Tattoo 34 and the types of tattoos they offer, it was time to photograph Tony's tattoo session and capture him as he worked. Tony's wife, Nisha Supahan, joined him in the studio, and he got started on her forearm piece! Nisha co-owns Tattoo 34 with Tony, and it was great to hear more about the shop's values from the two of them. The studio is community-centered, inclusive of all genders and races, and BIPOC-owned, too. Tony and Nisha strive to make everyone feel welcome in their shop, and this translates through their warm studio space and the way they connect with clients.
If you're interested in reaching out to Tony or any of the other incredible artists at Tattoo 34, their website makes that process super easy! All you have to do is click here and decide which artist you'd like to book with.
Thank you to both Tony and Nisha for welcoming me into Tattoo 34! I'm so excited that you'll now have these photos to use on your website and for marketing purposes.
