Studio Set Series: The Sheets ~ Boudoir Photography ~ Vancouver, WA

If you've ever read any of the blog posts from my Studio Set Series... then I'm sure you've seen how your choice of studio set can impact the ENTIRE feel of your session along with the vibe of your final images! Let's break down some of my most popular sets and the influence they have...

If you choose to shoot in my shower set, get ready for photos that feel sensual and even seductive.

If the rose petal set is more your style, your images will be super romantic!

Or if you go with the kitchen set, your shots will feel more playful or flirty.

You definitely get the idea!

...Now, what if I told you there's a different aesthetic choice you can make that has JUST as much impact as the sets you choose? I bet you'd want to learn more about it!

It's a small but super impactful choice... so we're including it as a post in the "Studio Set Series." Today's post is ALL about the sheet colors you can choose for the bedroom set and how to decide which one to pick!

If you've taken a look through some of my past boudoir photos, I guarantee you've seen a variety of sheet colors, and you may have even noticed that some colors are more popular than others! Here's the full list of sheets that I offer: white cotton, burgundy satin, silver satin, peacock blue satin, dark green satin, royal purple satin, black satin, and gold satin.

You've probably seen several posts that feature white cotton and silver satin... but barely ANY posts that feature gold satin. This right here is another reason why I wanted to make this blog post! Some of our less popular sheet choices (like gold!) would actually make a SUPER great option for someone who has a warm undertone in their skin or hair.

Once you're aware of the right questions to ask yourself when picking out your sheets... it becomes easier to find an option that complements you and lets you shine! If a client ever wants my advice on which color would best suit them, I take several things into account:

What color is the outfit that you're wearing in the bedroom set?

Once you figure out which lingerie you're wearing in the bedroom set, think about if you want that color to stand out against the sheets or blend in! Blending in can be a great option if you want other areas of your body (like your skin tone, hair color, or eye color) to be the focus.

What color are the outfits that you're wearing in the OTHER sets?

Let's say that you're choosing to wear burgundy lingerie in the living room set... If you like the idea of having a consistent color story throughout your entire session, I would suggest the idea of using burgundy sheets in the bedroom set! (As long as burgundy sheets look great with your bedroom outfit choice.)

What color is going to make your eyes POP?

If you have cool toned blue eyes, warmer shades (like gold) provide a contrast that will make your eyes stand out. Greenish eyes would look amazing with either burgundy or purple sheets. The warmth in brown eyes would have a fun contrast with the peacock blue satin!

What colors compliment your skin tone?

When it comes to finding the undertone of your skin, take a look at a foundation shade that best matches you! Does the name of the foundation shade say it's cool, warm, neutral, or olive? Cool toned skin would look amazing in silver sheets, and warm toned skin could definitely rock gold satin. A neutral skin tone would look great in either the silver or gold sheets! Finally, olive skin would look harmonious in the dark green satin.
