Toni & John (& Elliot!) ~ Maternity Photography, Vancouver, WA

Toni & John (& Elliot!) ~ Maternity Photography, Vancouver, WA

Like several others, these parents-to-be booked me MONTHS ago for their maternity and newborn photos. Mama wanted a more casual, laid-back, intimate home session and then stuff happened. And things closed. And sessions needed to be postponed… for who knew how long?

Obviously, maternity photos for this couple was on a BIT of a deadline. So, we postponed their April session for a later date and crossed our fingers HARD that we’d be able to make it happen before little Elliot decided to make her debut.

Family Photos, COVID-Style ~ Vancouver, WA

Family Photos, COVID-Style ~ Vancouver, WA

Things have gotten a little different recently with photography requirements in the age of COVID. The biggest two changes are that your photographer is required to be masked and to remain at least six feet away from you and your family. I stand behind these precautions 120%, but they do create some challenges. Wearing a mask means that your children (and pets!) can’t see my smile. This one is TOUGH for me from a heartstrings perspective. I want your little ones to feel comfortable with me as soon as possible, so my challenge to myself is to up my game verbally. Apologizes in advance if I’m a little “extra” at your session due to this. Make sure to have your morning coffee before you arrive. ;)

I am Strong. I am Fierce. ~ Guest Blog, Vancouver, WA Boudoir Photography

I am Strong. I am Fierce. ~ Guest Blog, Vancouver, WA Boudoir Photography

I walked away from Brittney’s studio thinking about how I had doubted myself, how good I felt, and how I couldn’t wait to see how everything turned out. When I sat down with Brittney to look at all the pictures I wanted to cry. I looked BEAUTIFUL. All of the things I had worried about showing up in the pictures I didn’t even see. My body looked strong, I looked fierce. Every picture I saw made me appreciate myself more. I wanted to cry looking at them, why couldn’t I just trust myself? This was an experience I will never forget and something I will always look back on (especially when I’m doubting myself).

This Boudoir Photographer's Attempt at Self Portraits

With everything being shut down (as of my writing this on April 21st), and not being able to photograph actual clients in my studio right now, I decided to try to use my built up creative energy to do some self portraits and play around with different poses… well, I’ll tell you, it was a lot more work than I thought it would be! lol BUT out of all of the images that I took (and there were MANY!) I did end up with some that I am quite proud of!

Mama, You Are the Real Miracle

Mama, You Are the Real Miracle

Even though I wasn’t there, I still KNOW that the day was magical and emotional. I know that there were tears, big ol’ smiles, and lots of hugs. I know that there was hand holding and gentle touches. I know that Dad kissed Mom, and Mom had a brave smile on her face. I know that Dad stood back in awe as he watched his partner bring his child into the world. I know that he was feeling so many emotions as he met the small, helpless little person that his wife had been nurturing, protecting, and physically experiencing (mostly alone) for the last 9 months.

Being Seen ~ Vancouver, WA Boudoir Photography

Being Seen ~ Vancouver, WA Boudoir Photography

I used to think that doing boudoir photos always seemed like you would be doing it for someone else to give the pictures to, I couldn’t have been more wrong. It was really empowering and the biggest take away I think from the entire experience was to feel seen. That might sound weird but being a wife, mother, employee, boss and friend is overwhelming at times like I am something for someone all the time and that someone is never myself.

What is Your "One Word"? ~ Boudoir Client Guest Post

Suddenly, I was no longer concerned with lumps. I felt BEAUTIFUL! My body felt strong. My confidence soared.

She showed a couple snaps on her camera throughout the session, and I was blown away. Why was I so worried? I looked like a BABE! There were no lumps, no love handles. I didn’t have backfat erupting from the back of my thong, or cellulite on my thighs that looked like cottage cheese. I looked like a strong, sexy, confident women.
